Westlake Austin Restaurants: The Case for Crossing the Bridge to Siena

Westlake diners don't always have to go far to eat well. But the restaurants worth making a habit of — the ones that earn a regular spot in the rotation rather than just filling a Tuesday night — require a little more intention. Siena Ristorante Toscana is a short drive from Westlake across Loop 360, and it's been that kind of restaurant for the area since 2000.

Why Westlake Diners Come Back

The short answer is the food. The longer answer involves the room, the wine, and the fact that a meal at Siena tends to take as long as it should rather than being shuffled out to make room for the next reservation. The Tuscan architecture — stone walls, wooden beams, a wood grill that gives the kitchen its character — creates an atmosphere that holds up to a special occasion and doesn't feel wasted on a regular weeknight dinner.

The covered patio and bar open at 4:30 PM. The balcony seating upstairs has a view of the dining room floor that makes it feel like a room within the room — a good call if you want some distance from the main floor without leaving the energy of the evening behind. It's the sort of table that suits a dinner where the point is the company as much as the food.

What to Expect on the Menu

Siena's menu is rooted in Tuscan cooking — fresh homemade pasta, wood-grilled proteins, antipasti built to share. The pappardelle with Texas wild boar ragù is one of those dishes that earns its place as the reason to come back. The fettuccine with wild mushrooms and truffle oil is the right move if you want something lighter but still substantial. The Cacciucco alla Livornese — a Tuscan-style seafood stew with shrimp, mussels, calamari, and fresh fish — is the kind of dish that surprises people who weren't expecting it.

For the wood-grilled entrées: the ribeye with Calabrian chili butter and the pork chop with truffle honey mustard glaze are the anchors. Chef David Hernandez runs rotating specials Thursday through Saturday. The wine list has earned Wine Spectator recognition — and at Siena's Wednesday bottle discount (25% off the full list), it's an easy night to explore something you've been curious about.
